The Weeknd is heading to the small screen!
The singer is working on a new HBO series in which he will produce, co-write and star in. The Idol is based on a story about a female pop singer who becomes romantically involved with an L.A. club owner (played by The Weeknd), who is also a cult leader.
The Toronto crooner will work alongside Euphoria creator Sam Levinson and Reza Fahim, a former nightclub owner-turned-writer. This is the superstar’s first dramatic lead role, however it is not his first acting role. He played himself in Adam Sandler’s Uncut Gems, and starred in an episode of the animated series American Dad, which he also wrote.
