Ella Mai shares her new album Heart On My Sleeve.
It’s been four years since her breakout debut but the R&B songstress is back with a 15-track project. Her last single “DFMU” is featured on the record, along with a few guest appearances from Latto, Lucky Daye and Roddy Ricch. Ella explains that her collaboration with Ricch was something that was bound to happen. “I think it’s a collab that people have been waiting for because Mustard and I work so closely together and so do Roddy and Mustard,” she said on Apple Music. “I was like, ‘Yeah, we need to give them a Mustard-produced, Ella Mai and Roddy…song.’ It was definitely time.”
In an interview with Billboard, Ella talks about growth and how she’s matured since the release of her first album. Her latest work is more “honest and emotional”.”When I released my debut album, I was 23 about to be 24, and now I’m about to be 27. Just in life, I’m a different woman. I’m more mature and I’ve experienced different things than I did when I was a 23-year-old. I’m more sure of myself as an artist.”
