Tate McRae Navigates Adult Life On Her Debut Album ‘i used to think i could fly’

Tate McRae is a pop star in the making!

The singer/songwriter just released her debut album i used to think i could fly. The Calgary-born artist burst onto the pop scene back in 2020 with her first EP all the things I never said. She then went on to release her single “you broke me first”, a song that became quite popular among the TikTok community.

On her latest project, which mainly consists of pop anthems, Tate reflects on the ups and downs of life….and love. “You grow up, you lose friends, you’re suddenly scared of things you were never scared of before,” she says in the intro. In a recent interview with Variety, the singer was asked what she hoped listeners would take away from the album. “I want them to go through a rollercoaster of emotions — I want them to genuinely feel like they’re watching a movie, because my intention is for them to experience every emotion and feel every story.”

The 18-year-old will be heading to the UK and Ireland for a few shows in June and starting in September, Tate will join fellow Canadian Shawn Mendes as a special guest on his Wonder: The World Tour.
