It’s been four years but Ne-Yo is back!
The singer-songwriter released his eighth studio album on Friday, titled Self Explanatory. The 13-track project includes the sultry “You Got The Body”, as well as his collaboration with rapper Bleu “Stay Down”.
In an interview with Haute Living, the singer explained that he started working on the new record four years ago. “I started this album in 2018, and I was moving through it a little more slowly than normal. It was taking me some time to get things going because I was really trying to figure out where I fit into the industry now — I’m not going to lie.” However the pandemic also thwarted his plans. “The pandemic really threw a monkey wrench in everything, for everybody — myself included. I wasn’t doing a lot of recording at the time because I was just trying to figure out what the hell was actually going on.”
Other artists on the album include Jeremih (“U 2 Luv”), Zae France (“Layin’ Low”) and Trippie Redd (“Push Up”).
Even after a 4-year hiatus, Ne-Yo never ceases to amaze us. His incredible vocal ability and songwriting skills have shown us over the years that he is in fact, one of the greatest R&B singers of all time.
